Get to Know Me

Megan Peters, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
Registered Play Therapist

Parenting is a difficult job.  As a parent of three young children, I understand the struggles parents face daily. Between work, school, extracurricular activities, and everyday life,  it can be hard to raise well adjusted children. I believe that early intervention is the best approach to helping children achieve their highest potential. Because you are the expert on your child, we will work as a team to develop goals and interventions for your child and family.

In my therapy sessions I will provide a safe, caring, and confidential environment to help you and your child work on exploring feelings, beliefs, and behaviors.  I understand that not one single approach will work for everyone. I use an eclectic approach to counseling. I pull techniques and ideas from cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, sandtray, and person centered therapy, to name a few.

Why Play Therapy?  Research has shown that children learn best through play.  When I work with your child, I will use my training in Play Therapy to help meet your child's needs through the use of games, toys, puppets, sandtray, and other tools.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Kansas and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Webster University.  I earned my Play Therapy certification through Heartland Play Therapy Institute, Inc.

I have over 15 years experience working with children, adolescents, and families.  My background is in child welfare, adoptions, alternative schools, in home therapy and early childhood intervention.
